Bankruptcy? Everything you know about it please?

Ok so i am in debt of about $5000 and have no way to pay it. i feel like such a horrible person. Im pregnant and someone said i needed to file for bankruptcy. But i know nothing about this or how it works or how people view it. Im only 23, would this be a good idea? Can you tell me about the process, how it looks on your credit? would it look worse than $5000 debt? Also do you know of any programs out there that might could help me get out of debt. like help me consolidate, but for cheap or free? I know i must sound like a bum, and i really don't want to. But i just cant get myself out and i need help. Thank you!!
